reputation. After a pre-dinner aperitif or two in the cocktail
lounge, their guests meet around an elegant table for a sumptuous
four-course dinner of the finest New Zealand food. Always varied,
there’s something to suit every palette from their award-winning
chefs.
Breakfasts are largely determined by the weather and guests wishes.
For some, coffee taken outdoors enjoying the delightful views
is a perfect start to the day. For others a full breakfast will
provide sustenance for a day filledwith leisure activities.
Of course, should you require a special diet, they are happy to
make arrangements to meet your personal needs.
HERITAGE
Okiato Lodge is situated in the heart of the tranquil Bay of Islands,
just a short car-ferry ride from Opua.
This
region of New Zealand is steeped in colourful history.
In
1769, discoverer Captain James Cook sailed his ship "The
Endeavour" into the region and named it the Bay of Islands.
It is also where, in the year 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi
their founding document was signed between the British and
the Ma–ori leaders to commemorate the birth of our nation.
The
Bay of Islands boasts countless possibilities for leisure and
adventure activities. If you play golf, you’ve come to one
of the best places in the world the beautiful Waitangi and
Kerikeri golf courses are mere minutes away. You can charter a
sailing yacht, or take the popular Fullers ferry cruise out through
the magnificent islands to the picturesque “Hole in the
rock”. Dive for scallops and crayfish or swim with the dolphins.
In
winter, when the daytime temperature rarely falls below 20°
Celsius, you may even encounter those most gentle of giants, the
humpback whale! For the avid fisherman or woman, your hosts can
arrange an exciting game fishing excursion to one of the hottest
fishing fields in the South Pacific. Sit back in the fighting
chair of a charter-fishing launch with a local skipper. You may
well be the next to land a world record Blue, Black or Striped
Marlin.
Two
things are for certain: you will never be lost for something to
do in the glorious Bay of Islands; and you will never forget it.
LOCATION
Guests travelling by car should follow the signs to Opua and board
the Russell car ferry to Russell. On disembarking from the car
ferry, drive 200 metres and take Piporoa road to the left and
follow the sign, "Tourist Lodge". Okiato Lodge is at
the end of James Clendon Place.

ACTIVITIES
Dream away the hours beside the pool. Take a stroll along the
shores taking in the location’s rare and serene beauty.
Relax and listen to the chorus of cicadas and native birds as
they fill the air with their song.
Fresh
sea air and sparkling clear waters caress these shores, as they
have for millennia. There is no finer place in the world to simply
do nothing but rejuvenate your soul.
Revitalising
your senses here can happen rather swiftly, so you may soon wish
to venture further afield to explore the bay and surrounding settlements
for some real New Zealand experiences. In that case, your hosts
can arrange excursions for you including: golf, game fishing,
scenic tours and wilderness walks. The choice is yours.
